Art and Me

Searching for Meaning

Its taken me a while to get back to creative practice.

I was busy, retraining, learning and starting on a new pathway as a therapist.

But although therapy can also be creative, I missed painting.

It was a huge part of my life for almost 50 years. And now I have small studio and a regular commitment to paint and draw - when inspiration strikes.

I don’t force myself to work when I don’t really feel like it. I don’t beat myself up if my work isn’t what I hoped it would be. I just enjoy the process and let it take me where it will.

So on a sunny day in my studio, you will often find me seated at my desk poring through my collection of op shop 70s picture books looking for inspiration.

I feel blessed.

Just being able to access a room of my own is incredibly nurturing and I have set it up so that I can start a little watercolour or an oil painting without needing to move everything around.

So I understand how precious creativity is.

It can help us explore, play, experiment and find ourselves through inventing symbols and finding ways to communicate with ourselves (and others).
